Good skin doesn't come from a cabinet full of products. It comes from a short list of well-chosen ingredients, used consistently. This guide covers the essentials worth knowing for a men's daily routine — what each ingredient is, what it does for the look and feel of your skin, and where it fits between morning and night.
The hydrators
Hyaluronic acid
The workhorse of modern skincare. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant — it draws water to the surface layers of the skin and helps it feel plump and comfortable. Look for multi-molecular formulas that combine smaller and larger weights: smaller molecules settle in, larger ones help smooth the surface feel. It suits every skin type, including oily skin, because it hydrates without any greasy film. You'll find it at the core of our Double Hydration Boost Gel, which pairs it with sodium PCA in a fresh, non-sticky gel.
Sodium PCA and glycerin
Two quiet achievers. Sodium PCA is part of the skin's own natural moisturising factor, so it helps skin hold on to water and feel comfortable after cleansing. Glycerin does similar work in cleansers and creams, keeping skin from feeling tight or stripped. If a formula feels hydrating but weightless, one of these is usually why.
The brighteners
Vitamin C
The morning classic. Stabilised vitamin C supports a brighter-looking, more even-looking complexion and adds cosmetic antioxidant support against the general dullness that busy days leave behind. It pairs naturally with ferulic acid and vitamin E, which support the formula itself. Start with a few drops each morning of a serum like our Vitamin C Glow Serum, or reach for the Even-Tone Glow Serum if uneven-looking tone is your main concern.
The smoothers
Bakuchiol
A plant-derived ingredient that has earned a permanent place in evening routines. Bakuchiol supports the appearance of smoother texture and the look of fine lines, with a gentle profile that suits skin that finds strong actives uncomfortable. It works best at night — our Bakuchiol Night Oil Serum delivers it in a base of jojoba, rosehip and berry seed oils.
Lactic acid (AHA)
Exfoliation, done sensibly. Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid that helps lift away dead surface cells so skin looks smoother and fresher. Once or twice a week at night is plenty — more is not better. Our Overnight AHA Exfoliating Serum combines it with hyaluronic acid so skin stays hydrated while it works. Always wear SPF the morning after exfoliating.
The firm-look supporters
Peptides
Peptides are short chains of amino acids used in appearance-focused skincare to support the look of firmness and fine lines. They layer well with almost everything, morning or night. Try them in the Peptide Firm-Look Serum, where they're paired with two weights of hyaluronic acid.
Marine ferment
Fermented marine ingredients like Alteromonas ferment extract support a comfortable, refreshed look and sit beautifully in daily creams — you'll find one in our Firm-Look Day Cream.
The botanical oils
A small group of plant oils covers most of what facial skin needs to feel soft and nourished:
- Jojoba — closest to skin's own sebum; lightweight, comfortable, rarely feels greasy.
- Rosehip — a classic for a nourished, cared-for look.
- Sea buckthorn — supports a radiant-looking finish.
- Evening primrose — omega-rich, for a soft, conditioned feel.
- Berry seed oils (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry) — light oils with cosmetic antioxidant support.
Blends like the All-In-One Facial Oil or the eleven-oil Nourishing Facial Oil do the combining for you — a few drops as the last step of an evening routine, or mixed into a day cream in winter.
The comfort keepers
Cleansing sets the tone for everything that follows. Aloe leaf juice keeps gel cleansers like our Daily Clarifying Gel Cleanser hydrating rather than stripping; floral waters such as rose, chamomile and calendula do the same in the Daily Cleansing Foam; shea and argan make the Gentle Cleansing Milk a comfortable choice for dry-feeling or sensitive-feeling skin.
Don't forget the scalp
Scalp is skin too. Caffeine, zinc PCA and rosemary oil support a clean, comfortable scalp feel and fuller-looking hair — the thinking behind our Max Volume Boost Shampoo.
How to combine them: a simple daily framework
- Morning: gentle cleanse → vitamin C serum → hydration gel or day cream → SPF.
- Evening: cleanse → bakuchiol serum or facial oil (or AHA serum 1–2 nights a week) → moisturiser if skin feels dry.
That's it. Two short routines, six or seven ingredients doing real work.
